Chris L. Bennett
Executive Vice-President & General Manager
Chris has been working with electric cooperatives since graduating from the University of Evansville in Indiana in 1975. He has worked at three electric cooperatives in his career, starting first with Adams Electrical Co-Operative of Camp Point IL and then with Wayne-White Electric Cooperative of Fairfield IL before coming to Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative in 1992. During his career, he has worked in the positions of Accountant, Office Manager, Director of Administrative and Finance and his current position of Executive Vice-President and General Manager.
Chris was no stranger to the electric cooperative world when he graduated from college in 1975 – it was a natural progression for him as his grandfather, an electrician, had worked in the 30s to assist getting members to sign up for electricity as his local electric cooperative was forming and growing, and his father later worked for an electric cooperative for 40 years in the positions of a Journeyman Lineman, Outpost Serviceman and as the System Engineer at his retirement.
Chris has a B.S. in accounting, post graduate studies and an NRECA management certification earned in 1986. He has served on the IEC Federal Credit Union board of directors continually since 1995 and is the current chairman of their board of directors. Chris has been a member of the board of directors of Southern Illinois Power Cooperative since 2013. He is an Elder in his local Christian church and believes Proverbs 3:5-6 to be his guiding light.
